The Adventures of Kevin Abroad, pt. 2

You may not actively recall a part one of The Adventures of Kevin Abroad; this is because it was posted several years ago and under a different title. But I assure you, (Art Day 01) it exists.

Part 2 might require a bit of back story, but this poses no danger for webcomics, with their wonderful rant columns handy to explain any inside joke. While in Tunisia back in February 2003, I experienced a Muslim holiday known as Eid Al-Adha, or "The Feast of Sacrifice." The celebration involves slaughtering a sheep and then eating the grilled meat. It's a holiday typically celebrated with family and everyone eats quite a bit. I was in a host family with another American friend of mine for this particular occasion.

Before going any farther, I should mention that the Arabs I met in Tunisia are by far the most hospitable people I have ever met. I don't believe I stopped eating the entire day, until my unfortunate incident with turkish coffee. I got to try various different foods up until the big event: the slaughter of the sheep. I'll spare you the details because it was unsightly. There was a good deal of arterial spray. Okay, so I didn't spare the details, I just spared most of the details.

Anyway, after the whole bloody incident was over, we watched them cutting the meat off of the sheep. The edible parts went in one giant bowl and the inedible parts went in another. As we were watching, we noticed (with horror) them cut off the testicles and put them in the WRONG BOWL.

As it turns out, in Tunisia the testicles are a delicacy. You may be asking yourself what an extremely hospitable host does with a delicacy.

So, there I am with this gigantic sex organ in front of me on a plate, all grilled up and hot, my gracious host smiling and urging me to dig in to its veiny mushiness. To give you an idea of my situation, this thing they're serving me is larger than a softball.

I hope nobody loses respect for me when I say that I ate it. Furthermore, I hope nobody loses respect for me when I say that I ate it and thought that it tasted good.

Next week the story will continue. I hope you enjoyed this look at some of my old artwork and hearing an actual true (disgusting) story from my past.
